About School of Music

  Founded in 1958, the School of Music is one of the cornerstone institutions of Shandong University of Arts. The school offers a broad range of academic programs and is a graduate-degree-granting institution. It currently includes several departments: music performance (voice, orchestral instruments, keyboard instruments, and traditional music), musicology, and composition.

  With years of experience and dedication, the School of Music has built a diverse and accomplished faculty, some of whom have earned national and international recognition and grants. The faculty has published dozens of musical treatises, textbooks, and hundreds of musical works and academic papers. The school has also hosted numerous national and international conferences and research projects. Many prominent artists regularly return to teach or host various activities as visiting professors, including Peng Liyuan, Liao Changyong, Lang Lang, Yu Hongmei, Shen Yang, and Yu Yang.

  To support students’ performance activities and develop professionals with strong practical skills, the School of Music has established the Youth Choir, Youth Symphony Orchestra, and Youth Traditional Orchestra, which are primarily composed of undergraduate and graduate students. These ensembles participate in performances and exchange programs both domestically and internationally, earning wide acclaim. The school has also developed partnerships and various forms of collaboration with prestigious institutions, such as the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Shandong Grand Theatre, and Gulangyu Concert Hall. Additionally, it has exchange programs with world-class institutions like Bard College Conservatory of Music and the Conservatorio di Musica "S. Cecilia" di Roma.
